Better cellular service is coming to parts of the Pontiac region following confirmation that two new cell towers will be built in the MRC Pontiac.
The announcement follows a petition presented to the Quebec National Assembly in May, signed by 345 Pontiac residents calling for improved cell coverage, including in the Upper Pontiac. The new towers will be located in Chichester and Alleyn-et-Cawood.
The projects are part of a larger $27.7 million investment by the Quebec government to install 17 new relay antennas across the province by September 2028. Additional towers planned in Low and La PĂȘche may also help improve reception in areas near the Pontiac MRC.
Local representatives welcomed the announcement, noting that reliable cellular service is an important issue for public safety, residents, and businesses. Improved communication networks are also seen as essential for supporting economic development and attracting new families and businesses to the region.
While the new towers represent important progress, work remains to address gaps in cellular coverage throughout the Pontiac. Local officials say they will continue advocating for communities that remain underserved.
Residents who supported the petition were thanked for helping bring attention to the need for better connectivity in the region.
