Mill Dam Park Set to Receive $50,000 in Upgrades as Phase 2 Development Moves Forward

Phase 2 of the Mill Dam Park development is officially on the books, with nearly $50,000 in upgrades approved by Shawville Council to enhance the popular community park.

According to recently published council meeting minutes, a motion put forward by Councillor Julien Gagnon was carried unanimously, authorizing a series of improvements to be funded through the FRR Volet 2 grant. The total approved amount is $47,388 before taxes and falls within the municipality’s allocated budget for the project.

The upcoming upgrades include the addition of Adirondack chairs featuring a custom Shawville logo, as well as four new picnic tables to expand seating options for park users. Lighting throughout the park will also be improved with the installation of solar-powered lights, steel support poles, and commercial-grade LED fixtures. Electrical work will be carried out to support the new lighting infrastructure.

Other enhancements include the construction of an observation deck overlooking the water, offering visitors a new vantage point to enjoy the natural surroundings. New access stairs will also be added to improve overall park accessibility and flow.

These improvements mark the next step in Shawville’s efforts to invest in public spaces that support recreation, gathering, and community wellbeing. While no formal announcement has been made, the development was detailed in the municipality’s meeting minutes as part of the ongoing work to improve Mill Dam Park.

Residents can expect to see changes in the coming months as Phase 2 progresses.
